Default Removing loud audio in video so that voices can be heard

Hey guys, I have just got my hands on a video of a recent callout (I'm a firefighter) and it shows our brigade royally screwing up. I want to use it as a training aid, particularly on the importance of clear and calm communication, however it is hard to understand a lot of what is being said because of the sound of a pump running. Some of the stuff is easy enough to distinguish over the noise (Particularly a "JESUS CHRIST!"), but other stuff is hard to understand. I was wondering if there is some technique that exists to remove or diminish the noise of the pump to allow other sounds to be heard.

I'm real sorry, I don't like joining a forum just to ask for help

Thanks in advance for anything you guys can put me on to

"Unbaking a cake" comes to mind. You may have mild success using noise reduction and EQ plug-ins for audio editors. Sony Noise Reduction 2 was a major step up from those I'd tred before (eg free plug-ins for Audacity, the NR in GoldWave) but Izotope RX3 (and now RX4) blew the pants of it. From the sound of what you've got here I doubt much can be done, but it must be worth a shot. There's a trial available but, from recollection it does not allow you to save the results.

    Are captions or re-dubbing options?

Try Adobe Audition in the spectrum view. You may be able to "lasso" the offending sound and remove it.

You probably won't get the sound as clear as you want/need! I would consider keeping the original sound (adds context) then record a voiceover explaining what's going on, or what went wrong?
