Angry Awful lag in preview pane SVP12, 100% CPU?

Recently I keep getting high CPU usage whenever I play anything inSony Vegas Pro 12. I've never had the problem before it's onlystarted to happen recently. When I preview my video it is reallylaggy and the audio playback is awful. It's so bad I can't even seewhat's happening because it's so choppy. I have not changed anypreview settings, and the problem was never there before. Usually, Ican use the internet, play songs on windows media and edit in SV andmy PC was fine, but now whenever I play anything it it horribly laggy, and task manager says the CPUusage is 100%.
If I play only an audio in SVP it plays fine with only about 3%CPU utilisation, but the instant I try to play video with audio itgoes to 100% CPU...
I don't know what to do, any ideas?

    System specs:
    Windows 8 64 bit
    SVP 12 64bit
CPU: i5 processor, 2.60GHz (Turbo boost up to 3.2)
    RAM: 4GB
    Drive: 750GB HDD

    Hi horsegirl and welcome.
WHat is the videop? ie what codec etc - and what is the source? Have you played the same clips in Vegas before? With CPU at 100% it sounds like something is struggling to decode the compressed video fats enough for Vegas to handle.
Have You installed and new video players or indeed any software recently?

Thanks for the reply, It's AVCHD and yes I have played the clip before... And no new software recently...
The issue was that I had the preview quality set to Best (Full). I've always had it set to this setting, but it just hasn't worked recently... I lowered it to Best (Auto) and the problem is now gone! Thanks for the reply anyway!

Well, I'm glad that's sorted then. But there must have been something "different" and it would be useful to get to the bottom of it.
