Default Software to produce an amateur music event

    Hi,
I'm new here and little lost in what I'm trying to achieve so hopefully I'm in the right place

Anyway what I'm after doing is putting together a music playlist of sets I've mixed in ableton or recorded live or just dropping the odd track in here an there synced to photos and little videos and effects for a party!

The idea is to do this all on my pc at home and on the day just have the whole thing playing off a laptop without having to do it all live, so was wondering what is the best video software to use for this?
Ideally I would be able to put photos/videos to specific points in the music tracks

    Thanks in advance

You don't say whther you'r Windows or Mac so, on the basis that Appple users tend to shout about it, I'll assume the former.
The free Microsoft Wndows Movie Maker will accomplish your task. There are different versions for different versions of Windows but it s available as part of the Windows Essentials download.
Alternatively Sony Movie Studio or Adobe Premiere Essentials are "budget" editors, both with time-limited free trials and these might suit better.

Ha yeah sorry bout that, I do have both but Yeah I was planning on using my windows pc as the mac is usually tied up elsewhere and I have all the music software on windows pc, I would of used the mac if was much easier mind.

Anyhow thanks for your reply, I'll have another look into the windows movie maker, I did have a scan though it not long back but dint think could do the effects I was after with it, even tho the effects are just basic light flashes round photos or just flashing text etc.

As long as I can sync photos/videos up to beats/melody changes etc in tracks and add few little effects and run the whole thing with very minimal input on the day, that would be ample

Thanks again for reply much appreciated, I've got about 8 month for this project and was getting abit worried about this side of things as thes so much out there to choose from I was getting lost! Lol, but if its only the windows movie maker that will do that's great ha if not I'll try the other 2 trials

I would use imovie or Movie Maker to trim the video clips then import them into itunes (which has a DJ type playback option) and connect the output to a projector.

    or.

Have a look at Keynote for Mac or Powerpoint for windows. You can get older versions very cheaply and they are easy to use.

Ah ok cheers will have a look, I usually try to stay away from iTunes as I usually end up with problems getting frustrated with it when swapping between windows and mac but ill have look into it for sure, as it's all going to be put up on a projector

Thanks for replys, got a good few to av a play with at the weekend

Oh and another thing I was thinking of doing was rigging a camera up and trying to program it to automatically switch to it at certain points, would that be possible or more hassle than its worth, just a thought, ha

    Thanks

Ah... sorry, I thought you meant you'd be filming effects. You could do flases and flashing text in WMM but it would be rather tiresome. Take a look at any of the budget editors. They tend to come with masses of effects like that as these catch the eyes of novices. Pro's are more likely to use the ditor for editing and use specialised programs (you'll have heard of After Effects) for ... effects.

Nah all I was thinking was mabye trying to get photos to change with a flash to beats, and the odd random text here and there throughout the event, that's about as technical as it will get unless I get good at it lol but if possible I think sticking a camera up to go live in places would go well!
Ive got WMM to have a look at and I'll get a few trials of the budget ones when I get chance to give a good testing.
And yeah heard of after effects and seen the interface but that's as far as it's gone, not really looked into much detail of it, looked technical lol
