    Default Latest Documentary work examples

    Hi, Hope all is well
It's been a while since I have been on the site but would love to pick up some feedback from anyone who's interested to give an opinion on these trailers and promo vids for new work.

    "Barber Shop City"
This is a trailer for a completed hour long observational documentary.

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3359476/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

    "A Naughty Thing Called Life"
This video is a short promo video designed as part of pre-production plan to act as an example of how the feature would be formatted. Docudrama ( The story will be narrated through interviews with various people and reconstructions will be shot to provide visual adaption as the story is being told)
This promo was shot with next to know real footage so the use of stock may be slightly excessive ut please let me know what you think.

If you just post one video per thread Mark or it can get confusing which video people are commenting on. I'll let you decide which one you want to keep.

    Hi Midnight,

Thanks, OK, can I start by getting an opinion on this promo.

As this is in development. We are going to Florida later this month to continue with interviews and to meet with an investor regarding acquiring the finance we need to complete the reconstructions. It will play out as a docudrama.

We have a script and professional story boarding completed for the entire feature but, as of yet, this is the only material that has been released.

Thanks, look forward to hearing your opinions. As I said, we have not shot much yet so the stock footage may seem a little excessive but I have tried to keep it as relevant as possible.

    Thanks MBP

I think this has a lot of potential. I was hooked.

On the down side, I felt you rather over did the cutaways and fast cutting. I appreciate a static shot of the guy talking is going wear thin very quickly, but I think you overcompensated. My attention was drawn away from the story and towards (a) all the fast edits - it was difficult to take in some of the shots/context and (b) trying to wok out what they had to do with what was being talked about - and some seemed very tenuous It doesn't matter - the point is my attention was drawn away from the narrative whereas the cutaways should enhance (or even be neutral). This was particularly prevalent early on. By contrast the shots of him with his little girl were an absolutely perfect accompaniment to that pasrt of the interview.

I hope you get to make the film and I'll be very interested to see it.

Like Tim I thought this had great potential. It seems like a very interesting story and although the editing was well done, as Tim has said it may have been a bit too much in places.

It's still looking very good though. I guess there will be a big difference between a 5 min promo and the full thing. I thought the filming of the interview has just the right look for the context.

Good luck with your project Mark.

Thanks for your feedback Tim ad Midnight.

It is very much in the developmental stage, this project. It's hard to put together an effective promotional piece when there is limited footage available that is relevant to the key subject. The pace which is consistent within the video that have put forward, I feel is necessary to elaborate and exemplify, in brief, the tone of the feature that will proceed from what is being portrayed in as quicker way as possible . As I said, we are yet to gather much footage. I feel the cutaways to enhance as I am very limited at this stage

However I am very interested to hear further opinions on this particular viral also I would love to gather opinions form both of you regarding a film that is now complete and that is approaching film festivals currently....
