    Hello all.

    I am starting a YouTube channel hosting weekly recipe videos. The twist being they are well filmed/produced and condensed to 60 seconds each, with all the action close-up on the food. I would appreciate your advice on:

    * Lighting arrangement.
    * Software for editing (I'm a fast learner - self taught Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Crystal etc)
    * How to film a snazzy 10 sec intro. - Would pay for this if anyone interested

    Here is me "on set". Yes that is a phone on the tripod! DSLR being repaired (dont leave near a 1 year old)

    Software - Many posters in these Forums use Sony's Vegas or Adobe Premiere . Both are available in different versions, ranging from 'basic and cheap' to 'advanced and expensive'. All, I think, are available offered as time-limited free downloads. Initially, I suspect you would not need the top versions.
    Snazzy intros - Perfectly good looking intros can be created with the help of your existing Photoshop. However, to create really amazing things (such as your name in 3d warping into the image of a fried egg whilst custard is being poured) tend to be done by more specialised software (for example, the hugely expensive and complex Adobe After Effects). But, depending on how quick a learner you are, the free software "Blender" is extremely capable. Best if you can do it yourself, because that makes it easier to change or modify afterwards. You may find 10 seconds is far too long.

    I know nothing of lighting, but wondered how reflective is the surface of your table. I look forward to seeing a few test shots.

    Hi Tim,

    Thanks so much for your thoughts; I will set about looking into your suggestions.

    The surface is not very reflective. In this test video you will note some reflection from the window behind where I am standing. This will not be a problem going forward as I will block this light source.
