Thread: Removing black borders from DVD VOB file

Question Removing black borders from DVD VOB file

I have a VOB video file that I've copied from a DVD disc.

There are black borders around the footage.

I want to remove the black borders (I understand I'll be left with clips with smaller dimensions).

I want to retain as much of the original quality as possible.

How do you suggest I remove the black borders?

To help, I have attached the media information (taken from Media Player Classic and KMPlayer) to this post.

There is no point in posting still frames from the video file, as each program displayed it differently (I tried KMPlayer, VLC and Media Player Classic).

I suspect this is a media player issue and that the video it's self doesn't have a black border around it. Just select "play in full screen mode" or what ever your particular player setting is called.

When I play it in fullscreen in any media player, there are huge black borders.

    It's part of the video.

Well in that case just crop the black border off in any video editing software.

Most software is complicated and often, since I don't know the output songs, the videos come out weird sized or lower quality.

    Any suggestions?

The resolution is 720x576, 25fps render at 8Mb bit rate using mpeg2 codec. These setting will give you the best results.

What editing software do you have ? In Sony Vegas there are templates that you can use to get the right settings, does yours have a standard widescreen PAL DVD template.
