Default Is the camera the problem?

I am trying to create a DVD from my little sisters dance recital and i am just getting horrible quality. This is my first time ever doing anything like it so be gentle as i'm sure i've made a mistake some where.

From the Camera to my Mac the clips and everything look good, I'm using iMovie for the editing, then from iMovie i export using expert settings into DVD-NTSC (in the US) but it still puts out a .mov file I then take that .mov and convert it into DVD and then view it and its one of the worst movies quailty wise i've ever seen.

The Camera is Sony Digital HandiCam DCRTRV17
Movie was captured on Camera highest Resoluiton 600x800
Using iMovie to edit and export.

Any suggestions? I thought about purchasing iDVD will that solve my problems?

Maybe your video editing software corrupted the movie by something?
    I don't think it's the camera.
