Default Black borders and horrible rendering quality

Hello. I've been having difficulties. One of them was getting these black boxes out of the edited video. This was fixed by using the same rendering resolution as my original video resolution. However, I am having issues with the end result now. The video is even worse quality than when I originaly recorded it. Someone told me to up the bit rate by moving the two sliders (drop down menus) for the bit rate in render settings. This did absolutely nothing. I'm not quite sure what to do next as I'm not computer savy. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hi Joe,
One of the key concepts to get clear when editing digital video files is that as much as possible you want to have the parameters of the end product match the parameters of the input files you are using.

By parameters I mean things like resolution, bitrate, frame rate etc.

Every time you change one even one of these the software you are using will have to process the existing files into the new parameters and you will lose quality.

Without knowing the source of your video files and the software you are using it is a little difficult to advise you in details on how to proceed.
