A couple of pointers:
Dissolving from one shot to a very similar shot (eg the first cut) rarely works. It just looks like it's been done to cut out a bad bit, rather than for creative use.
When filming small things - whether animals, children or inanimate objects - try to get right down to their level - in this case 6 inches from the ground. This helps make the camera (and thus the viewer) feel more involved in the scene rather than just an observer.
Just to add what Tim said, it's a good idea not to go from shot one to similar shot next. Think about shooting from a different angle or POV, distance etc.
