Default Audio problem in premiere 6.5

Heres the problem: i have a dvd i ripped and need to edit. I have it ripped, it plays fine in windows media player. In premiere I can preview the video before i drop it on the timeline with it working perfectly. however, when i put it on the timeline, the audio does not play back. im thinking it might have something to do with how the dvd is ripped.

here are the audio settings of the clip:
    Rate is 44100 samples/sec, stereo
    Sample size is 16 bits
    Compatible compressor: MPEG Layer-3 Codec
    Compression ratio is -15.-67:1

could it be the compression? if so, how should I fix this?

a quick reply would be greatly appreciated, as i need this done ASAP!

    Thanks,
    Jason

There have been many posts about this. I believe youíre right, itís compression. Premiere was never designed to edit compressed video, although there are plugins for 1.5 to enable it.

Pretty sure thereís no such plugin for version 6.5, might be wrong about this. I think youíll need to convert to .avi. Have a look at Marc's FAQ here -- they're all very helpful:
