Thread: Experimental/Surreal Music Video: Cloud Boat - Wanderlust

  1. Default Experimental/Surreal Music Video: Cloud Boat - Wanderlust

    Hi Guys,

I would really appreciate it if you would take the time to check out this music video I directed and edited recently
for XFM and BBC Radio 6 favourites 'Cloud Boat'!

It was shot on RED MX and Canon 5D mII and edited with Premiere CS6.
Colour correction and grading was done with Scratch!

    Many thanks,
    Hope you enjoy!

I watched it. It had some lovely scenes.
You did not post this in the 'User Videos' forum. Were you wanting reviews of the clip?

Yes please reviews and feedback would be great!

Sorry I'm new here, where should I have posted this to?

I thought it was an very original idea with very powerful imagery. At first I thought it needed to develop more but realised that it mirrors the unusual music track. I don't have a clue about any of the meaning of it all but somehow that doesn't matter to me.

    Well done.

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated and glad you liked it!

Some of the inspiration for this video came from the anti war film by Dalton Trumbo 'Johnny Got His Gun' which I saw and was quite moved by but generally
the band were looking for something quite dark and my interpretation of the song was that it was dark in a way but at the same time hauntingly beautiful
so I tried to compliment that feeling with the visuals!

I'm glad you liked it! The boy was great, its quite challenging working with kids but I'm really happy with his efforts!

Yes he done great, and I hope you had counseling arranged for him before and after, lol

It was a great reveal, so kudos to him, and the idea.

Haha he loved it! I think it helped a lot that the other actor met him before hand without makeup etc. and went through things with him, he was a little pro!

I very much enjoyed the starting scenes as new elements were introduced. I also liked the ending where the child appears in the room. I thought it had lots of very crispy sharp images and lovely colours. I watched in 1020p. I thought it 'looked' fantastic.
But. The chunk in the middle (switching between the child at water and the sitting man) seemed to go on for far too long. I felt I was losing some interest.
I felt the length of the clip was being stretched out to fit the length of the music. With a length of almost 5 mins, I might have preferred some additional elements to be weaved into the plot.
I certainly look forward to seeing your future clips.
