Default Am I missing a pin in my 1394 firewire terminal

Hi, I am trying to transfer dv footage to my laptop windows 8 via a 4 pin firewire cable. when i connect them together and put the camera (Canon legria hv40, second hand, bought from ebay, im using for the first time) in play mode, my laptop doesnt recognize the camera. I have looked very closely inside the terminal on the camera and from what i can make out there appears to be only 3 pins in there. if you count from the top down, there are 2 at the top, then one missing, then one at the bottom. To me this doesnt seem right, surely it should have 4 pins?

    Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

cheers mate. might get a cheap second hand one to transfer the footage. cheaper than 100 to fix it!
