Default DVD camcorder v Dv Tape camcorder

I am considering purchasing the Sony DVD DCR 202 Cam corder, and was wondering if there are any disavantages against the standard DV tape ones. I know you can put the disc directly into a dvd player, but I always load mine onto the computer and edit.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks Reg G

Don't get a DVD camcorder if you want to edit your video.

Many thanks for your reply Marc. Is this due to a drop in quality during transfer, or simply that you cannot do it?

    Thanks

Hi Regg... a couple of points:

    - DVDs are lower quality than tapes, because their compression ratio is higher. You don't lose quality, there just isn't that much quality there in the first place. Once you've edited it and recompressed it a few times, it might look bad.

    - DVD file formats aren't immediately editable. You can convert them, but it's a major hassle.

There are a couple of other points, but these are the major ones.

Stick with a miniDV tape camcorder. Definitely, definitely.
