Thread: "Jumping" Effect

  1. Default "Jumping" Effect

    Hi guys,

Would anyone happen to know how to do this "jumping" effect seen at 0:32, 0:44, and most importantly at 0:59 - 1:05.

This is the video I am referring too - MKBCC Winning Series (6) - Winding Back The Years - Luke - YouTube

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It just looks like a series of jump cuts to me. A jump cut is anything that looks like the position of the observer or (as in this case) time has instantaneously shifted. As this can never be observed in real life it has a disquieting effect on the viewer and for traditional narrative filming ("the continuity school") is best avoided. However, it can also be a great effect in less formal filmmaking- especially when synchronised to the beat of music or sound FX.

In the example you show, this has been achieved simply by removing portions of the continuous sequence and then closing up the gaps by abutting the remaining clips.
