Thread: Can I upgrade Movie Studio Platinum 12 Suite and add Hitfilm 2 ?

Default Can I upgrade Movie Studio Platinum 12 Suite and add Hitfilm 2 ?

I know Sony has Moive Studio Platinum Visual Elements Suite that includes Hitfilm 2 but when comparing that to the standard Platinnum 12 suite it eleminates some things such as sound forge. So I want to buy the standard suite and add Hitfilm 2 but did not find anything on the Sony web site that states this is possible. Or maybe it isn't worth adding ?

    teisco,
I guess if you want both Sound Forge Audio Studio 10 (and don't have it with a previous version of Plat. Suite) and Hitfilm 2 Express, you need to upgrade to Movie Studio Platinum Suite 12 and then upgrade to MSP VES 2.0. To see your options log in to SCS site and check My Account/My Software and/or Purchase/Upgrades. The latest special offers were valid until Dec. 28, but I just checked and they seemed to be available still. You need a qualifying serial number to upgrade of course. You get the trial version of Hitfilm 2 Express with the download of MSP VES 2.

Thanks for your fast reply and information. If I follow correctly you state that if I get (have not bought yet but will get one or the other depending on this), if I get MSPS12 and then upgrade to MSP VES 2 that should work. The only thing that concerns me is your statement about MSP VES 2 coming with only the trial version of HF 2 Express. That would indicate not getting the full program ? Or I would have to eventually purchase HF 2 Express ?

    teisco,
you'll get all the links you need to download MSP 12 Suite files with the order confirmation email.
You don't need to install HitFilm if you don't want, but you need to buy MSP VES 2 from SCS, if you want to get the serial number to unlock HitFilm. Otherwise HitFilm runs as a rather limited trial version. The demo version is limited to 30 second exports directly to YouTube in standard definition only. There are no time restrictions on the HitFilm 2 Express demo.

Personally I wouldn't bother with Sound Forge Audio Studio unless you particularly want to make ACID compatible loops. I've had it for several years but found the much cheaper and more flexible GoldWave much more useful as a specialist audio editor.
Sound Forge Pro on the other hand is a different beast altogether. With the bundled Isotope plug-ins and the fantastic Sony Noise Reduction plug-in, I have found it to be my favourite part of the upgrade I made from Vegas Pro to Suite this Christmas. Admitedly this may be because I have a project needing completing where I needed to improve the audio and haven't played with the HitFilm stuff yet!

Thanks again for your fast response because as these items are on sale for limited time. In comparison between MSPS 12 and MSP VES 2 I find VES 2 missing sound vorge (not sure it that is important as Audacity also seems to work with MSPS), pluss New Blue FX, plus Red Giant Magic Quick Bullet filters, plus some production music. I do really want HitFilm as that is what this is all about but the choices are getting confusing. I see where to upgrade to MSP VES 2 from MSPS 12 it would cost me 90 bucks or so. Better than just buying it from HitFilm for 150. So I have to think about is should I buy MSPS 12 and upgrade for 90 (about 200 total) and get the extra missing bits or just get MSP VES 2 for 150 and forget about Sound Forge and the other filter gagets because HitFilm might take care of that and more.

Thanks for hanging in there with me on this.

    Tim,
you may well be right about the merits of these two programs, but MSPS 12 (with SFAS 10 plus a few other extras) is only about 15 euros (max, ex VAT) more than MSP 12 (without SFAS 10 etc.)

Indeed VK. I think i bought it as part of a bundle on the basis that it only added a few quid to the cost Of course it's a very useful tool if you don't have an audio editor (although there's really no excuse with Audacity available.
