    Default Film Showreel

    Hi guys

A lot of you have been following my work and giving great feedback. I've just completed my first showreel to hopefully get some work/ experience on other peoples projects. I would love some feedback.

    Thanks

I think it shows you off quite nicely.

I think it shows of your original material, your film making, much better than it shows off your promos - the second half is nowhere near as attention grabbing as the first.
That, of course is good, in that you start with a bang, but it sort of fizzles out a little (far better than starting with weaker material).

What was more disappointing and I suspect more off-putting for a potential client, is that there was no audio with any of the extracts. I think your showreel should show you know hoe to record and use sound as well as visuals.

Congrats on the BSc, BTW. Graduate this year?
I have a nephew doing his A2 year who has recently had an about face and has decided that he no longer wants to study Chemistry at university, but film production - any tips, comments, thoughst I can pass on?

    Thanks very much guys.

If I were to make a longer show reel then I agree I'd have to put more sound bites in there. This is just to grab the audiences attention then maybe they can watch the full films which are in the video description.

I graduated last July. University was an amazing experience for me and I'd recommend it for everyone. You also get to put off not getting a job for another 4 years. I did a Bsc as opposed to a typical BA and am very thankful for it. I only did 3 exams in my entire degree and the rest was practical hands on work. I learnt skills about being on set that I put into practice all the time. I'd advise picking a more specialised degree rather than BA film studies or BA media studies. Hope that helps

Thanks Callum. I would have advised him against Film/Media studies because of other comments on this forum, but the more practical Film Production reems more likely if not to lead to work at least provide him with the skills to start making his own way in the business. Good point about the BSc being more practical too. I'm not sure what he's planning ....

I wouldn't read too much into whether it's a BA or BSc. It really makes no difference, and it would be stupid to assume that because one is a BSc, it will be more practical. Most proper film schools award BAs and MAs as far as I can tell. Hell, you can study science at Oxford and come out with a BA. Apparently some universities even let you choose what title you want at the end, with no difference in what you have to do for each award. I did a BA in Film and TV Studies, and I think I did even fewer exams than the OP. So yeah, you really have to research each course carefully and find out exactly how much practical work is involved.
