Default DirectX error on install of Movie Studio 4.0

I just got the non-demo of this in the mail, and when I try to install it, it refuses saying that I don't have directx 8.1 or later installed, whereas there is no question that I have 9.0c installed properly.

You can't force it to install, and it fails here. Is there any kind of a workaround? I can't install the ancient 8.1, as this is XP, and it never even came out for this platform, ttbomk.

Try and roll back to 9.0b?

I figured out I could just download the "demo" versions, and then enter my serial numbers, and voila, same as full.

Neat trick if you have a bad CD or an old version you want to install, Sony has all of it available online for download.

    The Updates are here:

And if there's no update, there's usually a link on the product page to the demo version.
