Default 'Advanced' Picture in Picture (zoom(ed) & crop(ed))

Hey all. I know how to do picture in picture, use keyframes for that, and move it around in space. Easy stuff.

What I can't seem to get vegas to do, is have a picture in picture video, with the smaller video(say at the upper right) be a ZOOMED clip. As in, I want it to kinda look like this hilarious photo(but a video):
    macgyver lol.jpg

As you can see here, we have Mr Macgyver's face, and a smaller(pip) croped and zoomed picture. I want this, but with video in Vegas.

I'm using vegas 12 right now, btw.

    Thanks for your help.

    Like that?

Duplicate the video on tracks 1 and 2.
On the event in track 1 use the event pan and crop tool to crop only. (uncheck the "stretch to fill frame" box under "Source")
Use track motion to zoom and position.

The problem with zooming using Pan and Crop (by leaving the "stretch to fill frame" ticked is it always produces an image the size of the frame (ether vertically or horizontally or both if you've "maintained aspect ratio)

Now zooming using Track Motion is not a good idea as it loses quality. So you might prefer to render out a zoomed (using Pan and Crop) section first, then import the rendered footage to replace that on track 1.

Another approach is to use the cookie cutter after applying a zoom on track one. But here you are limited to the shapes and aspect ratios available. You could create a mask the size you want and use a parent child relationship between that and track 1 ... ut were now delving into even more obscure ways of doing it.
