There isn't a law which says you have to use them all.

Different people need different formats for the many different uses for example. mpeg2 to is needed to make standard DVDs, Some people like to make wmv files for compatibility. Some people like mp4 to post on YouTube etc.

I know Vegas is very different to Pinnacle but I'm sure you will find it a better piece of software once you are more use to it.

Agree that the excess of options can be disturbing! I recently chose 10 options that seemed better to me and renderized the same project on all of them to check differences of sizes and quality. Now I have just 5 main options to choose from. And I always render at 1080, even if it´s some trash.... Can´t see the point on filming HD to render SD. Disk space is a not a big challenge as 10 years ago!

    JR,
you can also limit your choices by checking Match project settings in Render as. This document gives you many pointers too

In general, besides the forums, the Knowledgebase on the SCS site and the VMSP online Help are very useful. It's a jungle out there, but still...

As a simple pointer, you could try the Make Movie option.

Use the MPEG 2 for the DVD and MP4 for on-line
No point using AVI as they tend to be massive, so long upload times and YT will convert, were as MP4 is much better.

    try this tutorial

Exporting with Vegas for Vimeo HD
