Behind The Scenes: The Dictatorship Behind The Scenes - YouTube

    THE DICTATORSHIP SCRIPT

    Part I -- USSR Indoctrination

Imagine growing up in the dictatorship that like the Soviet Union. You are born to parents who lived under the iron rule their entire life and only your grandparents have vague memories of a different way of life and even that was of the dictator style monarchy of the Czars. They all tell you that you must accept the authority of the government out of brain washing that was done to them or simply because they fear to much for your safety to tell you otherwise. On top of that your school and everyone you meet in your town or city promotes the same authoritative communist ideology. As you grow up you learn to accept your life as if that is the way everyone is suppose to live. Your peers also have the same experiences and accept their lives as the norm. You very rarely would run into anyone who would dare to openly question or reject the belief system you grew up in. You are always told to fear those people. You are told that those people who live differently in other forms of government have lives that are full of suffering and pain. When you do eventually run into a person who openly counters the ideology of the state you would mock him for being an idiot, try to show him the error in his beliefs using the same arguments that have been drilled into you by your school and by your authority figures, or you would refuse to listen to him because you know that he is wrong and that his ideologies promote the suffering and pain you heard so much about. You would most likely live out your entire life brainwashed and never see the reality of other ways of life, and go on to someday brain wash your own children in the same way you were brain washed.

Part II -- Modern American Religious Indoctrination

Now Imagine you grew up in modern day America. Your parents grew up and lived out their lives in a specific religious ideology, even your grandparents lived out their entire lives with the same religious indoctrination. They all tell you that you must follow their religion because of their own religious brain washing, or out of the fear that you would be disowned by those around you for disobeying their god. On top of that almost all of the people in your community promote the same religious doctrines or ones that are almost identical. As you grow up you learn to accept your life as if it is the way everyone is suppose to live. Your peers also have the same experiences and accept their lives as the norm. You very rarely run into anyone who would openly question or reject your religion. You are told to fear those people. You are told that those people who live differently have lives full of pain and suffering and will have an eternity more to suffer even after death. When you do eventually encounter someone during your life who counters your religious ideology you mock him for being an idiot, try to show him the error of his ways by using the arguments drilled into you by your authority figures or your church, or you do not listen to him at all because you know that he is wrong and that his ideology promotes the pain and suffering you heard so much about. You would most likely live out your entire life brain washed by those around you and never see the other side of things, and go on to someday brain wash your own children in the same way.

In broad terms I agree with the point the film is making. However, the film is made in such a way as to make me want to disagree wth it. It is blatant anti religious propoganda which comes across in exactly the same way as blatant pro this religion/that religion propoganda. There is no video content to speak of, just loads of communinst Russia images and religious Images, poorly filmed - and what on earth happened to the sound?

Sorry, you just come across as anti-religious zealots.

Firstly, Adding sound FX to a narrator does not make him dramatic or amazing! Watch some of the best Hollywood films or even the best TV dramas, How often do they use FX on spoken narration?

Let us assume that you use video as an art form to tell a story, what story is there in this?
The only story so far is where the video creators have an opinion ( religion is bad, you brainwash your children bla bla ) and want to force that view upon the viewer in any way. You use faceless souless imagery such as communist flags or Christian crosses but nothing that has life.

Now imagine a video where John Smith is telling his story to camera of how he grew up in one of these settings, how he struggled with the issues he was faced with and looking back on his child-hood what does he think, in the same way you ask what a person under communist rule felt like growing up in that environment.
But there is no story, No journey, It appears to be simply a group of angry people who have created a video that takes a stereotypical fear ( The dreaded communists! ) and line it up against Religion.

How do you answer the brainwashing of our children into buying the different brands of clothing? That if I wear Nike I'll be cool that if I wear Guci I'll be classy that if I buy the right product my life will be better ( The right car/watch/house/fragrance )
How do you respond to the brainwashing of children into the obsessive goal of acquiring money at any and all cost no matter whom they harm or what laws are set in place to prevent them.
Or how do you protect children from the brainwashing that it's cool to bully the weaker guys in the room.

Depending on your peer group, your environment and on a whole range of other factors we as human beings naturally try to match ourselves up to one another, either wearing the same style of clothes, driving the same(ish) types of cars or even communicating/expressing ourselves in similar fashion to the people around us. Religion is by far not the force that creates conformity in groups, Have a read of the below article
    http://westsidetoastmasters.com/reso...6lev1sec7.html

    In summary.

    1) I found the video as a piece of art to severely undersell itself, If you watch a documentary on say an African tribe being pushed out by a group of greedy corporates, what the documentary team try and do is get the views from as many people on both sides of the coin as possible and invite the viewer to form their opinion regarding the issue, yours felt like you were shouting at me trying to persuade me that your opinion is correct simply because you say so?
    2) I applaud that you posted this video here, as you may be aware videos posted here are subject to criticism either on technical how it was made aspects or even the message of the story and it takes courage to submit your video to this scrutiny so well done for doing that.
    3) Whilst I do disagree with your message and the way you communicated it, I sincerely hope that you have a chat amongst yourselves that if I made a video with the message of "The moon is made of cheese" but presented no facts, no testimony no story no creditability from a scientific point of view you with good reason would find my message flawed in every way, so at the same time try to think how you can make yourselves

Credible - What facts can you present of said brainwashing, where has it happened in America? Are there towns that can be named? Are there other sources that support you? Any studies done by psychologists?
Engaging - Are there people in this message? What is their story? Engage me with people not with landscapes and buildings
Encourages Action - What is going to make me want to not only watch this video to the end but also remember it and possibly act on it? If religious brainwashing is so terrible what is being done about it? Where can I go to find out more. If I produce a "stop taking drugs" video I'll include sources to where people can get help with their addiction to act upon it, What is the next step for viewers?
Draw a clear line of opinion and Fact - Try to be objective and clear in your choice of words and how you present information, whilst by all means give your opinion make sure that when you present factual information that is clearly separate from when you present opinion.

I hope this is helpful to you

I have to agree with Tims view about this. I does just seem like a badly recorded rant about religion rather than a well researched argument.

If it was more like THIS it would have been better.

My aim in not putting any people in this video and only showing architecture and objects was to compare the soviet relics in my home country of Belarus to the modern day imagery those who live in the US and are religious are accustomed to. This is what my argument of indoctrination was based on. I do agree with you though in retrospect had I taken a different approach collecting first hand accounts and building a strong argument this would have been both more convincing as well as something that people could more easily relate to. I never considered "the next step" this would have probably helped true. As far as the audio goes I cannot comment as I was involved in everything accept that and at the time did not know anything really about editing audio at all. Thanks a lot for your suggestions.

Now THAT sounds like an interesting video - concentrating sooley on the architecture and relics and letting the audience draw its own conclusions.
