Smile Arranging get together of JVC GR-D340Z and Aspire 5742Z

Hi, I'm a newbie today. This looks a great forum. Could any-one give me advice on how to set the above up for editing please. I do Elements etc for stills but am just trying out my long unused mini-cam for editing. Thanks.

Looks to me like your JVC is MiniDV with a Firewire out. Your Acer doesn't have a firewire port.
You might try to find a firewire to USB converter, and if you do it might work (some people have reported success) . But i wouldn't expect it to.

Best bet is find an old desktop PC and, if it doesn't have a firewire card but one for 5-15. Capture your video on to that. Transfer via network or external USB disk/stick. Long-winded, but that's the only way to go unless you have a suitable dektop you can do your editing on.

Thanks Tim, have tried the USB/DV lead, doesn't work as you say. My old Acer lap-top is the 1363WLMi, this still works but slowly, would that be any good ?
Have just downloaded manual for JVC and have sent for a lead which enables creation of DVD via my Liteon recorder (allegedly !). I take it I can then access the correct files from the DVD to edit on the lap-top ?
