Thread: Final Cut Pro 7 - what's next?

Default Final Cut Pro 7 - what's next?

I've been using FCP for quite some time now, but as I understand this excellent product (product line?) was discontinued by Apple early last year. I've heard horror stories about Final Cut X, and now I'm "scared" (:-O) - what will I be using after I'll have to retire my FCP 7? Will there be an advanced video editing solution from Apple? Is it going to be FCX? Will they resurrect FCP?

Appreciate any thoughts or advise on this matter.

This video will tell you a bit from someone who's an Apple user and professional filmmaker.

But to cut a long story short, tell Apple where to stick it and switch to something else.

Easy, download the FREE trial of FCP-X from the Apple website and find out for yourself.

Countless people have countless opinions about FCP-X, By the time you wade through the cocky immature kids saying things like "oooo its the best in the world" or "its not professional" and actually find the carefully explained logical statements, your head will spin.

By all means, download the trial and find out for yourself.

    Now my own personal opinion.

There is nothing currently wrong with FCP-X for a video editor. It is simply very different to FCP-7 and has reduced features in some areas.

So, that means I should start looking for an alternative... but what is it out there for Mac?

Avid also discontinued it's low end editing offering - hey, instead they now offer editing solution for iOs! Maybe I should try that?! Just kiddin'

That kinda sucks having invested into FCP so much.

    No.

    FCP-X is 200-300 aprox.

Any other editor that sits in the FCP-7 slot will be 1000+

I'm sorry but you have to at least install the trial yourself, For your needs and purposes it might tick all the boxes you have and it will save you a fortune.

    On another note...

Avid | Media Composer 6 Crossgrade from FCP (-$1,000 USD w/code)
This lets you purchase Avid Media Composer with your FCP-7 license key. You pay the full media composer price BUT it's $1000 less.
    Tempting right?

Btw, I've used iMovie before - not sure if I'm a big fan of it's simplicity and "ease of use" though...

Anyhow, thank you for advice, Bpotter908 - I'll sure check it out myself.

Hey, educational price for Avid Media Composer is just $300!! I hope it's a full version and not a chopped version with severely reduced functionality...

(luckily for me, I'm affiliated with an educational institution)

Get Adobe production premium with your educational pricing

    Photoshop
    After effects
    Media encoder
    Premier pro

Media composer...is just a video editor,.

Adobe CS6 Premire Pro is fairly similar to FCP7 and you can map a lot of keyboard shortcuts the same
