    Default Grid to video

    Hi,
I need a software (free ones preferred =) ) with which I can add a grid on top of video.
This is for research, where I have to follow the growth and fate of very small Items (cells) that I have filmed. There are about 1000 of them in one film and a grid added on the film would help me to count and follow them.
I have about 400 films, so adding the grid should be as easy as possible and batch tool would be extremely nice.
At the moment I analyse the videos by QuickTime pro. They are in .avi format and are made from photos taken every hour.

    Thank you for your help

If you can draw your own grid in any graphics software then save it with a transparent background a .png is a good format for this purpose. The lay the image on a video track above the video track and you have a grid over your video.

    Thank you.
Which software is good for laying the image on video?
(sorry for stupid questions, I have never edited any video before).

Well for Windows something like Sony Vegas or Adobe Premier ( I haven't use Adobe so can't help with that one) I know in Vegas it's as easy as a couple of clicks. You can download a fully working free trial of either of these from their websites. For Mac final Cut X or even Imovie should do the trick for you. I'm not a Mac user so I can't walk you through it like I could with Sony Vegas.
