    More importantly England v France.

If you do watch Britain in a Day, don't blink or you'll miss my bit.

Please don't make me feel bad, when I say blink and you miss it, it really, really is that short. Just one quick shot of the moon and that's it.

I've only seen the first 55mins so far. Did I blink and miss it or will I have to sit through the rest.
I found it a bit of a mixed bag. The opening sequences hardly showed Britain in a great light. Is that how we're advertising ourselves to our Olympic visitors? Some fo the other stories were quite interesting, but I didn't see anything to match what they could have made with an edit of Midnight's pice.

I taped it and have just finished watching it.
I appreciate Tims perspective about opening sequences
But must admit i really enjoyed watching it I thought it was really well done
MB's moon was there but his footage was cut down in editing which is their loss !
I have watched all his you tube videos and some of the longer sequences they used in my opinion aren't a patch on some of MB's stuff.
    Appreciate I am biased though.
But regardless I thought it was really good.

    Well done MB

My focus pull of the moon is in the last 10 - 15 mins Tim. It's not like you haven't seen it before so if you didn't like it don't waste your time.

The director didn't want to make a PR piece about how great we are. He tried to take a snapshot of the reality in Britain with the footage he had (not every social level of society submited videos) and create some sort of coherent narrative. He explained at the Preview how sorry he was that he had to cut so much of peoples footage and how each submission was a little documentary in them selves. For example, the guy who was saying about fish and chips not being cheap had a trip around a supermarket and a tour of Nestles chocolate factory, these where apparently hilarious but just didn't fit with the directors idea of the narrative he wanted to give.

Yes, there were bits in there which I wouldn't have used but I'm not the director and I'm sure it was a very tough job cutting it down from 250 hours of really usable footage to 90 mins.

I may have given the wrong impresssion. I didn't mean I didn't like it - just I found it a mixed bag - mixed in terms of quality of footage (to be expected) and of content (also to be expected). I wasn't complaining.

I understand that the idea was a snapshot of Britain and this is what it was. I've no problem with the "warts and all". My "gripe" about that was that it kicked off with a less attractive sequence, but this wasn't unattractive enough to capture one's attention.

From the point of vioew of a snapshot, I don't think this was as successful as something like the "Seven Up" series for getting an insight into the attitudes and conditions of Britain in 2011. I may be wrong - we're obviously too close to it at the moment o tell.

I didn't think you were complaining. You are expressing a valid opinion.

I would agree that it didn't show a complete snapshot of Britain. I think this was down to a few reasons. Firstly there wasn't enough of the darker underbelly of the country, probably because that element can't be bothered with a project like this. Secondly judging by the number of contributers that was at the northern preview, half of them are "wanna be" film makers like me. Which is a truly disproportionate (and disturbing) element of society.

I didn't follow the Seven Up series so I can compare them.
