Thread: Want to rotate a video 90 right without the final video looking stretched

Question Want to rotate a video 90 right without the final video looking stretched

I want to rotate the following video 90 right:

    • 7 seconds, 640x480, AVI, 8.01 MB, 30 fps. The data rate is 9231 kbps.

I have used Free Video Flip and Rotate and VirtualDub.

    I (think I) expected a 480x640 video.

Both programs rotated the video but both, for some reason, both used 480x360.

    Both videos look stretched.

Also, the video that VirtualDub threw out was 184 MB, which is silly.

    Any ideas?

When you rotate the video it wants to stay at 640 x 480. I'm not familiar with the software that you used so I don't know what the setting options are. BUT the size should remain the same. You will of course have black bars either side of the video.

Why must there be black borders? I don't understand that. If it's going form 640x480 > 480x640, there should be no black borders.

Is this clip going to be added to other footage of 640 x 480 ? All the media players TV screens etc. that I know about will not be able to work with the resolution of 480 x 640, without having black bars on either side. They are use to aspect ratios of 4:30 or 16:9 etc...

It will only be played on the PC, so a frame size of 480x640 is fine.

Will you be adding this clip to other clips that was shot with the camera the right way round ? I suppose that is a moot point, what you want is the pixels to stay square not stretched, so tell the software this. If the settings on your software will allow.
