    Default Hi8 & MiniDV Capture

Hi. Searched forums and noticed a lot of advice now many years old.
Wondering what - in 2012 terms - is the best method of transfering Hi8 and MiniDV video to my PC.
I have a fire wire connection, and use PinnacleStudio Plus as my video editor.
But I have about 30 hours of taped material which I would like to get on my PC for editing.
I have some solutions but all seem to work at normal tape speed - 1 hour of tape takes 1 hour to move to PC.
If there was a way to speed this up withjout losing quality, that would be great!
Finally - I would like whatever app I use to easily allow the digital file to be split into relevant sections - again without losing any quality.

The easiest way to do this, is get someone else to do it for you.

If that's not an option then there is only one way and that is the way it's always been done. If you use Pinnacle, I think you can set it to make a new section every time the camera is stopped and started or you can set it to make a new section after a certain duration. I can't really remember as it's been a long time since I used it.
