Default Beginner Pan/Crop - Grainy Image

    Hello Everyone,

I recently shot some footage using a single camera. I wanted to break up the monotony by adding some closeup effects to the video. The original footage looks great, but when I use the pan/crop feature and create closeups in my video, the closeup video seems to be grainy and less focused. How do I get my closeups to look as clear as my original footage view. Would I need to have additional cameras zoomed to the closeup that I want to get the quality that I'm looking for?

    I'm using a Sony HDR-CX130 - FULL HD 1920x1080/60p. AVCHD

    Thanks!

    In short, yes.
Your image is made up of 1920x1080 pixels. If you zoom in to, say, half that size (a quarter of the original image) each of the original pixels now takes up four pixels so it is blockier. There is software which claims to improve on this by interpolating the "created" pixels, but I've only seen it for stills.

OK Thanks Tim. That makes sense. I'll use multiple cameras for the clarity I want.
