I'm trying to render just the audio from a video into a FLAC track, but it keeps rendering 4 second long blank tracks, even PCM Wav did the same thing...any ideas?

Where in the track is the blank section Or are you that all you get is a 4 second long black track ?
We need more info about the media format length etc.
All I get is a 4 second long blank track, my source is an hour long .VOB file I changed the extension to .MPG to import into Vegas. I get audio during playback in Vegas just fine, anything else?

Now we have to start a process of elimination. Is the include audio stream box ticked. Have you got a loop region set, is render loop region only ticked. These would be the common reasons which seems a good place to start.
There is no include audio box when dealing with an audio only file type, no loop region settings.
I applied a fade at the beginning and removed the track FX and it rendered... I don't know what caused it, I'm curious why on FLAC 48k-16 compression level-0 I was only able to get a 779kbps track?

So you've solved, well done. I don't know why on FLAC 48k-16 compression level-0 you was only able to get a 779kbps track.
