    Default PC Setup

Is there anything that can be done to optimize render time?

Is my Antivirus software for example going to slow me down?

Yes, anything running in the background like email, internet, anti virus etc... will slowdown your render times. Having a fragmented drive will also slow things down. It is best to have the media and the program/OS on separate internal (not external) hard drives. Don't have you drives to full, I have found that once you get to about 75% full speed is affected. Having the OS in tip top shape will also help.

Having 2 internal hard drives would be great wish I had 2.

Yes I have found keeping my internal 80 gig hard drive around half full works best any more and thing gets bad for me !!

    - What OS have you got?
    - Which version ( 32-bit, 64-bit, ultimate, home, premium )
    - Do you routinely maintain your system and if a glitch appears, You fix it or ignore it?

I'm using 32 bit Vista and hope my PC is "optimised" regularly, defrag, clear crud, updates etc.
