Default Video Capturin and Editing form a JVC MiniDV Camcorder

I have a JVC MiniDV Camcorder. I have a P4 2400GHz - 1GB Memory - 120 GB 7200 rpm HD, ASUS P4B Mother, Firewire socket. Connection between camera and pc works fine. I want to download the tape contents in RAW format (full tape data, INCLUDING voice and camera date and time information) for later editing and converting to dvd format. I have not been able to find a proper program or program set to do this. any clues? All suggestions welcome.

I don't think you will be able to capture in RAW format from the camcorder, since data is already compressed in DV format on the tape.

    Default "RAW FORMAT"

Sorry, I'm no expert. By "RAW" I mean "native mini DV format", so I can have the equivalent of the miniDV tape on the HD and manipulate it BEFORE compresssing it to any of the normal PC / DVD formats.

    Ahh right.

As far as I know, most editing programs capture as native DV AVI, and only change when they're exported. It copies the data bit-for-bit from the tape. Adobe Premiere certainly does.

Digital capture is nothing but a simple copy operation. The video data on the MiniDV tape is in digital format (0's and 1's, you know), so no data can be lost during capture. Any software (free to $ 1000 or whatever) will get you the exact same result. So good luck!

Thanks to both of you, I'll try Adobe premiere, I haven't tried it yet. See what happens.
