Default Poor quality from analogue source

I have purchased an ADS Instant Video device to capture video from my analogue camera. The only output from the camera is a mini-jack, and the cable has only mono audio and video plugs. When I sample live or recorded video, the quality is very poor - jagged lines and blotchy colour.

I have tried Windows Movie Maker and VideoStudio that came with the hardware.

My processor is 1.8Mhz, I am using XP Home, and I only have USB 1.

I would like to put my movies on a DVD to view on my TV.

Am I expecting too much? if so what is the solution?

Please read through the FAQ first. This will probably help solve a few of your problems re: the "jagged" lines (interlaced artifacts).

Thank you for the suggestion. I had browsed the FAQ, but found nothing specific to my case, although I wonder whether my PC is up to it.

The lines I refer to are not interlace lines, but the result of low resolution. Any lines that are not horizontal of vertical are jagged because of coarse grain / large pixels. I was hoping to get perfect results but perhaps I am expecting too much.

Would I be better to send the video to my TV then use an s-video cable to the PC?

Could you post a screen shot of the video?
