How to make a ghost moving an item (demo inside)

I've always wondered how to make it look like an item is moving by its self, is this possible and any pointers?

I've seen this guys videos before, he's quite good at what he does. Some of the things ar just on a thin fishing line that is being pulled. There may be other techniques being done but I'm not sure.
