To me it looks like they merely overlaid some "light leaks" like you can find here (free): Digital Cinema Foundry – Learning resource in the field of digital cinematography – Free “Film Burns” exclusively here!
and some lens flares like Knoll Light Factory: Red Giant - Products - Knoll Light Factory 2.7
