Default How to render a vid clip with sony hd platinum 11

Does anyone know how to do a simple render to video in sony HD platinum 11? And what were those folks at sony thinking? A dark gray interface?!! Anyway, when I try to create a video, it keeps prompting me to "select a template from the list". I choose windows wmv, and the option to render is grayed out. Anybody familiar with this program? Thanks.

    1. To render within a project, select the portion of your video that you want to render (A grey bar with start and end points will appear just above the Ruler in the time line).
    2. Hold down the SHIFT key and Press M. Change your settings (The settings default to your project settings) or change them by clicking the CUSTOM button. When done click OK and hey presto, rendered video.

3.To render your project to disk, select FILE>RENDER or FILE>MAKE MOVIE and follow the prompts.

4.To get rid of the horrible grey background, select OPTIONS>PREFERENCES and click the DISPLAY tab. Uncheck the USE VEGAS COLOR SCHEME checkbox then click the OK button. Note though that you will have to restart the programme for this to take effect.

Wow, thanks so much for that! I figured out how to render by going through about 4 unnessessary steps, and finally ending up with an mpeg 2 file. So, I'll give this a try. Thanks a ton for the info on killing that ridiculous gray background.
