Can you choose the PAL preset? It should have the proper frame size and pixel aspect ratio for you.

If you are creating graphics you will want to work in square pixels. You can work at 768x576 square pixels for 4x3 videos and 1024x576 for widescreen videos.

That might be where your problem is, in Cs4 Adobe changed the PAR from 1.42 to 1.46 (widescreen) and 1.067 to 1.094 (standard). Previously the square pixel translation from 720x576 widescreen was 1024x576, it then became 1050x576. For Standard where it was 768x576 it is now 788x576.

    Hi guys

I have tried every setting, I am having to scale up footage to fit the comp manually (the footage is recorded in widescreen format). Does the job but would prefer if I did'nt have to take this route.

    Thanks guys

Did you capture the video in Premiere Cs4 or in a different program?

If your capturing video in CS4 or later your frame aspect ratio will be 720x576 with a pixel aspect ratio of 1.46, this translates to a square pixel frame size of 1050x576.

It all depends on what you are doing, if you are creating content in AE to be exported for use in Premiere (versions CS4 or later) you can either set it to 720x576 - 1.46PAR or 1050x576 - 1PAR.

If your using CS5.5 and CS4, as they both have the same PAR setup, there's no reason why the presets of PAL widescreen or PAL widescreen square pixel should have any problems. Maybe if you tell what you are doing in a bit more detail it would help fix your problem.
