Default GOOD laptop for a film student?

Hey I'm a film student so I'm going to do a lot of editing as well as studying so I need a laptop to answer my needs... I heard a lot of good things about the Macbook Pro and it looks really cool but I was wondering if this is the best choice, as much as it is tempting, I can only buy the simple 13" model with an extension to 500 of gigs... I heard that the graphic in the 13 inch isn't that good -Is it true, isn't it Full HD??

If not apple, which laptop should I buy (around 1,000$)
Who here ARE film students? What do you use? More importantly what would you recommendd on your experience and why?

you should buy a desktop because ?
    1. Performance better
    2. Don't use Laptop because temperature too high when render.
