Interesting story: Creativity Crisis: Has Remake-Obsessed Hollywood Run Out of New Ideas?

In essence the article is asking why there are so many re-makes. I put it down to two things.
1. Lack of courage. Studios are reluctant to risk anything new.
2. Lack of talent. Writers are producing dross and there isn't anything worth financing.
This might seem like I'm blaming both sides and in a way, I am. Rarely do I see, or read, anything which makes me go "wow" anymore.
"Sirens" on channel 4 being one of the few new series which is not a re-hash or re-write of an already successful idea.
Edit: "The Hour" on BBC is looking quite good too but despite the good plot line, it has so many factual "mistakes" that it's starting to wind me up.
