Lower third

Ok so I downloaded this lower third video...however the background is black

How can I make it transparent so only the lower third shows? I was able to crop it but there is still black showing since the image is not a perfect square.

From the website it sounds to me like the clip is using the alpha channel.
Right click o the clip on the timeline and select Properties
Go to the Media Tab
Where it says "Alpha Channel" 2/3 of the way down, change it to Straight (unmatted)
