Thread: Need help to decide which software and laptop combination for specific requirements

  1. Default Need help to decide which software and laptop combination for specific requirements

    Hello all.

My goal is to get video to a tv station in the following format:
    Format
    AVI
    MOV
    Video Settings
    Frame Size: 720 x 576
    Frame Rate: 25.00 frames/second
    Field Order: Upper
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.067
    Fields: Upper Fields First
    Audio Settings
    Sample Rate: 48 KHz samples/second
(Both left and right channels should have all the audios)
    MPEG
    Video:720 x 576, 25fps, PAL, Quality 5.0,
Audio: 48 KHz, 16 BIt, Stereo
    CBR: 6Mbps

Now I want to purchase a laptop and software combination that will edit video of these specifications or better, and export to the above specifications.
I know about compression and upscaling and this is not what I want to do.
What I'm looking for is some advice on which OS/software would be best suited to this use, and how much RAM I would need and also, how fast the CPU must be and how many cores would be suitable for the software. This job and basic Photoshopping would be the sole purpose of this laptop.

I hope you can help. My budget is about 700 + software costs.

If you are sticking with only SD footage and have no interests of ever editing HD down the road, then I would recommend these specs:

    Windows 7 Basic
    Intel i3 or i5 Processor
At least 4 GB of memory
    7200 rpm hard drive

If you're planning on getting into HD editing down the road or work with After Effects or some other effects application, I would suggest these specs:

    Windows 7 Basic
    Intel i7 Quad Core Processor
    8GB of memory or more
    7200 RPM hard drive

Let me know if you have more questions.

Thank you for the quick response. Those look like modest and within-budget specs. The video editing would be basic rearrangement of scenes. I don't know which software I should use or what "effects" is...What would be the most suitable software for our use please?

For the basic editing you'll be doing, Adobe Premiere Elements would suite you just fine.
