Thread: DVD size question

    Default DVD size question

Hello, i've got a digicam that records in resolution 640x480.

I've gathered tons of clips into a whole film that's lenght is about 54 minutes, i am planning on rendering it as a DVD so i'm using the templates Mainconcept mpeg2 and that thing "DVD Architect NTSC" or something like that.

I did a test and rendered a small clip to see size, and it appeared really big for such a short clip. So in total it turns out it will appear atleast 5GB (Which will definetelly not fit into a DVD disk).

So my question is, once i'm done rendering in mpeg2 i need to get into DVD architect and finish it off there with a menu and such. When i'm done there can i "compress" it or "shrink" it or whatever to have it on a lower size?

Btw i'm working on Sony Vegas Pro 10.

    Thanks in advance.

When you create the MPEG2s try setting a lower bitrate until it becomes small enough. Alternatively let DVDA worry about it - DVDA will recompress if it can.

Thanks alot for the quick reply. Gonna render and see how DVDA will do the trick. :P

You should easily get 54mins on a DVD at good quality! You're using NTSC, (North American TV system) but this is a UK forum. Where are you based? I can advise you better of settings to use then. Also, Google 'DVD Shrink'. A free programme that makes a better job of 'shrinking to fit' than DVDA. (my opinion )
Lastly, DVDA is notorious for over estimating the finished DVD size.
