Default Lets be honest... Who is busy???

    Hi all

Been in the business over 20 years
Done weddings, events and corporates but now I`m really starting to see a decline.

Is it just me feeling the pinch or is it happening everwhere overall?

    Cheers Guys

    I feel your pain!

I've been doing wedding videography for over 10 years. Since the economy went south here in the States about 2 years ago, I've been branching out into other work fulltime, commercials, visual effects, films, music videos, etc.

We got to do what we can do stay busy!

    Feast or famine, right?

I hope you find more work!

    Later,
    Mike

    Hi Mike.

I could stay busy but i also need to get decent pay as well.

There is a saying that anyone can be busy.... but are they making any money.

Obviously you are not in that situation as you are getting the feast.

Are you full or part time?

    Ah yes!

    I'm full time, self employed.

Yes placing a bid on a job is the worst part about our work.

    How low can you go!!!?

Are you being outbid you think, or is the work just not in your area?

2011 is a quiet year in the UK as far as weddings go. I've noticed more couples are booking later, though 2012 is booking up fast. 2 months are booked solid already. I can only advise diversifying. I decided 3 years ago to cut back on wedding coverage. down from 40/50 to 15/20 now, but that was planned.
We now have a lot of work building up in photography too, so the pre planning and other media skill sets soon kick in and fill the order books.
I refuse to lower prices for the same workload. Nothing more futile that being a busy fool.
My opinions are just that . . . Mine. It's not personal, but is based on my emotional and professional reaction to requested critique. If you choose to ignore constructive comments, I'll just assume you're a vanity poster and not posting to improve your filming and editing skills.

I'm with Zero. Don't cheapen yourself by lowering your prices too much.

With my work, I consider myself a perfectionist. Because of this, it takes me more time to finalize my product, therefore my prices are higher then most.

Before the economy went south, there were enough clients that wanted quality over cheaper prices. But now I’m finding myself, perfecting less, so I can lower my prices some and get more work.

In the end, I’m still charging higher then most. ☺

It’s time to get creative with selling your work/services.

    Mike.

Ive noticed lately that alot of my ex-customers are now using their employees to do their in-house videos.

Maybe professional quality videos are no longer required for the small business.
All their interested is a presence on the web like a trash youtube video which probably gets the message across and does the job.

    I hope not!
