    Wink New rig - will Premier Pro CS 5 run smoothly editing 1080p HD?

    Title says it all, I am wondering if it was a mistake to go 2500k instead of 2600k >_<;;

    Thanks guys,
    Joe

    Hey Joe,

    You should be fine with the i5 chip. You will need to wait a little longer on the rendering though.

    What kind of footage are you going to be editing? AVCHD codec, or DSLR (Canon) or what?

    Thanks for the response! You were right on the money, I have a Canon EOS T2i and plan on editing 1080p at 24fps-30fps .MOV files. Do you still think it will be fine? I don't mind with rendering times, I just get annoyed when I get excessive choppiness whilst in the editing process.

    Ah, very good.

    Yes, you'll be fine. The Canon DSLR cameras shoot at 1080p at 48Mbps/sec while using the H.264 codec. Premiere can play these video files natively (Adobe rocks!). With this footage not being nearly as compressed as the AVCHD codec, your playback in Premiere will be less strenuous on your processor.

    Your playback should be smooth with the i5, however there will be limits if you start adding filters to your footage. Your playback will get laggy depending on the filters you add. But this is case with any processor.
