Thread: After Effects - Transparent Background in Composition?

Default After Effects - Transparent Background in Composition?

I created a new composition in the most recent version of AE, Windows platform, which I understand defaults the background to 'transparent'. This is what I want. I know how to toggle that checkerboard looking icon to toggle the transparency view, but when I render my composition the transparency is lost. The background ends up a solid white, which is not what I want. How can I render while at the same time preserving the transparency in my composition?

I'm no export but as I understand things, it's all in the export format. What settings are you using? Are you exporting as an AVI? if so that would explain it. Try .MOV and check your settings.

Thank you. I resolved the problem by selecting "RGB + Alpha" from the export menu, exported to QuickTime Animation.
