Thread: Weird Quality/Format Issue

    Default Weird Quality/Format Issue

I'm recording my footage with a Dazzle DVC100 with S-Video cables. For this particular clip I captured with Pinnacle Studio 12. I used MJPEG AVI at 100% quality. When I watch the video in VLC or Media Player Classic it looks fine. However, when I open it in Vdub or Sony Vegas it looks terrible.

    Snap from VLC:

I think I've narrowed down to the MJPEG encoding because clips I recorded in Uncompressed AVI with AMcap don't have this issue. I also don't think its a codec issue because I have the latest K-Lite Codec Pack. Does anyone know what the issue is here?

    Thanks in advance

I'd put a small wager on WMP & VLC automatically deinterlacing footage (the footage is interlaced) whereas Vegas's preview windows doesn't and I suspect Virtual Dub doesn't either. That's because these are editors - showing you what is actually contained within the file whereas the others are players which detect and automatically deinterlace interlaced footage. If you render the fioles from Vegas or vDub, you'll find they play fine in VLC or WMP.

Can you tell us what PC-spec you have...?

I believe this is a similar issue I have. Oddly though I find W (Live) MM renders it just fine. Audio good, video sharp.
Sony vegas 10 appears to require a higher spec than Sony suggests.
