For windows the industry standard is probably Avid. Although you may want to consider the Adobe Creative Suite as it comes with other applications like After Effects for Compositing effects, Soundbooth for audio editing and Encore for DVD authoring. The editing software for the creative suite is Adobe Premiere Pro which is quite simple to use.

    Thank you

I think I will buy CS5 Master suit as it looks all inclusive and has many options

93% of primetime television in the UK is edited or mastered using Avid products
The top programme brands of 2010 report, Televisual, February 2011.

The most important thing isn't so much the software but learning to edit. Still, for anyone considering a career in television I recomed learning Avid as early as possible. Steps are slowly being taken now as Media Composer has reasonably recently become available as a software only option, but the problem is still the price, it costs a bomb.

It's still not that cheap, but for value I also recomed Adobe CS*.

    Thank you

Some might sat that $2,500.00 for CS5 isn't chump change either bust since I already use Photo Shop, Deramweaver and InDesign so I already have a feel for their products, I will however look into Avid to see how it looks

Before you do, I just realised I done it again. Those figures relate to UK television. I can imagine it's probably still similar in the US, but might not be.

Eventually I might end up with both programs but will go with CS5 first

The compatibility issues were the main reason I have decided to go with CS5, being able to have all those programs work with each other in such a way makes it all much easier.
