Thread: How do I put a video inside another video?

  1. Default How do I put a video inside another video?

I looked all over the internet for such an easy thing, but I simply could NOT find the answer! BTW, I am a very new editor.

So, I simply want to put a video in the bottom corner of another video. Just like a comparison would be. I have Sony Vegas Pro 10. Here's an illustration to what I mean:

Probably extremely easy, I tried to figure it out myself even, just couldn't put my finger on it. Any help would be MASSIVELY appreciated. Thank you in advance.

The technique is called Picture in Picture (or PiP).
Rather than explain it badly here, I suggest you google "Howto PIP Vegas". That brought up loads of tutorials for me including several videos.
Once you'v etried that, if you're stuck, come back and ask again.
    Cheers

I've done this in one of the 3 ways below:-

1] Track Motion -easiest least fiddly

2] Picture In Picture - haven't used this in years, but it's value is that it isn't/doesn't command a whole track as per 1] above.

3] Pan/Crop - also valuable in that it doesn't depend on a whole track.

  4. Default Thanks so much, everybody.

Thank you all for your replies! I finally found out how to do it on Sony Vegas Pro 10 and also found out how it could be done in Camtasia Studio 6 too (seeing as though it's much less complicated for me ).

I mainly did it because I had a video of a timer (counting up to 8.40 and stopping) and I wanted to put it on my speed stacking video, but this could be utilised in comparisons, synchronizations, commentary tutorials, and much more!

Eh!! You do realise that you do have a Timecode Fx already available? You really have given yourself a massive monkey on your back. Change that monkey to a bear!!

Just goes to show, again, as Forum members, we should really spend time in asking what it is that a Vegas User is trying achieve, before getting involved with the how.

Ah, but then someone else coming across the title of the thread who actually wanted to put one video inside another would be confused as to why we're telling him to use the Timecode FX, n'est pas?

Oh, they perfected that years ago. It's just a slightly distaining look away accompanied by a shrug of the shoulders and possibly an almost inaudible expusion of breath "burph"
