I work in a college and our mini DV camcorders are obviously coming to the end of their lives. We have editing facilities which use Final Cut Pro on iMacs. We are considering which camcorders to buy and we know that the AVCHD will mean conversion, big files and other problems for us. So we are thinking about which camcorders we could buy that would get us around the problem. We have even been thinking about a still camera - the Canon SX 30 which we think produces H.264 .mov files which we could take straight into Final Cut Pro.
Can anyone recommend cheap camcorders which we might also consider, or have any further thoughts on this issue or on whether it would be a good idea to go for the Canon still camera and use its video function? We will need to replace about 15 camcorders and we don't want to make an expensive error!
