Default No sound on Hi8 tape.

    Hello.
    I have a Hi8 tape that I shot about 15 years ago.
I later bought a Digital8 cam just to be able to play my old Hi8 tapes.
This particular Hi8 tape have no sound on it.
I have several other Hi8 tapes and they have all sound.
I have played this Hi8 tape both on my D8 videocam and on a friends Hi8 cam but no sound on either of the cams.
I am 100% sure that there was sound on the tape from the beginning.
    What has happend?
How can the sound have disappeared?
Can something be done to get the sound back?
    Any suggestions?

Can you remember the model number of the device you used to record the tapes? The 9000 was the digital full size machine?
I have several tapes recorded with the same Hi8 cam (which I don't have the model number of) and they all got sound.
    Now I have a D8 cam SONY DCR-TRV730E.
There is no sound playing on that OR on my friends Hi8 cam.
I know I have heard sound from the tape before some 10 years ago.

I don't know for certain.
My current cam is a D8 and it records the sound in PCM 12- or 16bit.
It has the capability of playing Hi8 and Video8 as well.
But the spec doesn’t tell me anything about that.
There are no settings or options regarding the sound when you play a Hi8 tape.

And why is there no sound when I play the tape on a “real” Hi8 cam?
And as I wrote before I know I have heard sound earlier.
But I can’t tell if it was on my old Hi8 cam or on my current D8.
    Strange…
