Thread: Trouble opening a large file (4gb) in Vegas Pro 9

Question Trouble opening a large file (4gb) in Vegas Pro 9

I'm attempting to open a 3.99GB MP4 file in Sony Vegas Pro 9 and I'm having some trouble. The video opens and plays without any problems in VLC. I've used Vegas to edit similar files recorded and encoded using the same camera without any problems when the file size is below 2GB. When I open any file that is ~4GB in size, Vegas loads the audio but loads a black frame for the video. My computer is running 64bit Windows 7 (NTFS) with 4GB of RAM. I assume this is some sort of 32bit file size limit. Is there a good way to split these 4GB MP4 files into smaller files without reencoding? Is there any other way around this?

    Thanks for your help!

Just in case anyone else ever has this problem, here's how I got around it... AVIdemux is a freeware program that easily allowed me to open the large file, and simply select the section I wanted to split out of it without reencoding. Worked like a charm. You can find the program here: Avidemux - Main Page
