  1. Default What to do with 720p 50fps mini dvs...?

Hi am new got a noob question for you guys...

I've got 5 mini dv tapes which I need to get the video off and on to my pc for editing

I was told they were shot at 1280 x 720 progressive at 50fps...What kind of equipment/camera would I need to get the raw footage off the tapes and on to my pc?

    Thanks

Any video camera that records on to DV Tape should play the tapes. Just plug in a Fire Wire cable and open up you capture software.

so it doesnt matter that the tapes are recorded at 50fps? or at 720p?

i can put it into literally any mini dv cam and transfer to the pc via firewire without any loss of quality?

From your description, these are recorded in HDV. You need an HDV camera. There are many on the market (eg Sony FX1)

I don't want to invest in a camera just to convert the tapes...

If I used a standard mini dv camera...can that not play/transfer the tapes to pc at 720p 24fps?

I never even thought about that. I was just thinking it's digital information so it will take whatever the digital information is off the tape what ever the information is. It would be 25fps which is the standard speed of all SD Mini DV. I'm puzzled now, sorry about not thinking this through. The sure way of having the right camera is borrowing the camera that shot the footage, is that out of the question.

I'm pretty sure you need a HD camera to capture HD footage. I don't think a mini dv camera would do the trick i'm afraid. You could rent a camera like the sony z1 for a day to use as a deck for around 60-70, save having to buy one.
